The production and use of fertilisers is essential to ensure food security for people; however, we must be aware that their use impacts on our ecosystem, so we must try to reduce this impact as much as possible. To achieve this, at DFGRUPO we believe that we must build on three pillars:
One of the main objectives of our Research and Development Department is to study products and technologies that allow us to reduce the environmental impact resulting from the use of fertilisers. DFGRUPO invests significant resources in this work, resulting in the following developments, among others:
ECOAMONIACARE seeks to fix atmospheric nitrogen to synthesise ammonia, which is the source of nitrogen in current fertilisers. A project that promotes the reduction of gases emitted into the atmosphere and adapts the use of fertilisers to the new requirements in the conservation of agricultural soils.
Plant extracts with biofungicidal capacity. The main objective of the CAPSILUR project is to develop a non-toxic, natural and efficient biofungicide from agri-food waste to combat crop diseases caused by soil-borne fungi.
We have developed for DFINNOVA, our speciality fertiliser subsidiary, a whole range of fertilisers and biostimulants certified for use in organic farming. These technologies range from abiotic crop stress solutions to soil regenerators.
To highlight the unique characteristics of our production process, the Safe&Green range was created. This range reflects our commitment to modern, productive and environmentally friendly agriculture.
Our compaction production process, with minimal use of fossil fuels and based on renewable energies, allows us to have a low environmental impact in our factories.
The compaction process is an innovative one, unique in Spain, which eliminates chemical waste and protects the environment. Its great versatility allows the elements needed in new fertilisation techniques, such as algae and bacteria, to be incorporated into the process, but it would not be possible without the use of raw materials of the highest quality. The production process is as follows:
GRUPO manufactures its products using a mechanical compaction process instead of a chemical one, which minimises CO2 emissions and uses very little fuel and resources.
In addition, we have installed photovoltaic systems in our factories and automated our logistics facilities, which has considerably reduced CO2 emissions.
We have also signed a major strategic agreement to sell more environmentally friendly fertiliser that converts a waste product into an input, thus closing the circular economy cycle. This fertiliser protects aquifer environments and reduces nitrate leaching losses.
Our aim to promote the proper use of fertiliser and to protect the soil means that we reduce environmental impacts. Accordingly, we conduct dozens of soil trials and train hundreds of farmers.
In its commitment to environmental protection, DFGRUPO has joined a collective system of extended responsibility for the management of packaging for professional agricultural use.
While the content may be the most important part, the container is important as well; therefore, DFGRUPO has joined the Spanish Association for the Recovery of Packaging, in line with its sustainability strategy and commitment to the 2030 Agenda.
Basically, AEVAE promotes packaging of agricultural products that protects the environment and moves towards a circular economy model. Thus, when the contents of the packaging run out, AEVAE oversees its collection and traceability, ensuring the correct management of the waste and giving it a second use.
AEVAE collaborates with manufacturers and distributors of packaged products for agricultural use, including DFGRUPO.
